5 State Fall Boat Adventures
Fall boating is a combination of my two favorite things – cooler weather and adventure activities! Many people think of going into the woods or mountains at this time of year, but being on the water could be exactly the thrill you need for your family getaway or romantic getaway. Not sure where to go boating this fall? Here are five fall boating adventures to tick off this season and the best states for you.
1. Island Ferry – Florida, New York, Michigan
The thought of taking a boat to a distant island is a great adventure. There are boats in Florida that can take you to the Florida Keys or Tortuga Islands. In New York, you can visit Lady Liberty in a short drive to Liberty Island. For historic charm, try the ferry to Mackinac Island on Lake Huron, Michigan.
2. Primitive Camping – Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee
If you're more of the paddle-it-yourself type, look for a paddle-in campsite, which is common in state parks and national forests in the southeast and mid-Atlantic Oceans. Intended for the ultimate adventurer who prefers to pack lightly and indulge in all that nature has to offer.
3. Fall foliage – Oregon, Colorado, Wisconsin, Maine
Catch the brilliant colors of the changing seasons by boat! Admire the colorful landscape as you cruise the coast of your favorite river or lake. There may be no other experience that is so magical. Follow the foliage and there are likely boating spots nearby.
4. Sunset Cruise – Illinois, Massachusetts, Washington
From steam powered paddle boats to private micro yachts, sunset tours offer an incredible fall boating experience and can be found in many major cities. Seeing your favorite skyline light up at sunset is breathtaking.
5. Beach Fire – California
Would you like to do without the boat? Californians might as well have invented beach fires. Most state parks and beaches allow campfires here, and the experience can be downright fascinating. Warm fire light, soft sand, waves and a big, shining moon. Top it off with a cozy blanket and manners, and you have an unforgettable night.
Now that you know where to go boating in the fall, bundle up, go outside and go boating!
