Cat befriends stray kitten from the yard and brings him to his home
A family cat made friends with a stray kitten and decided to bring it home.
Klarieke (@la_riek) lives with her family in an old farmhouse in the Netherlands. They have three adult cats, Jack, Louis and Stavros, which they adopted from Greece a year ago.
"Stavros lived on the street and was very ill. He was rescued by a Dutch girl who stays in Zakynthos every summer. She was looking for a home (for the cat) in Holland, so we decided to adopt him," said Klarieke Love meow.
"My husband and I said: 'This is the last cat, three is enough.'"
Last month a little kitten appeared in her garden. He was very shy and thin. Klarieke had never seen the kitten and wasn't sure if it belonged to anyone.
The next time he came back, Klarieke was surprised to find her cat Stavros, who was hanging out with the little kitten like two good buddies. The orange and white cat took the tabby under his wing and watched him play in her garden.
The kitten sneaked into her yard among the tomato plants in the garden and eventually made her way to her shed (attached to her house) while under the watchful eye of Stavros. It wasn't long before the family realized how bond the two feline friends had become.
They played together and snuggled together in the shed as they took a nap. The kitten was very shy of people, but absolutely adored his feline friend.
"One day I was feeding our three cats in the kitchen and Stavros was just standing at the dining table instead of eating," said Klarieke Love Meow.
She glanced at his plate and was pleasantly surprised by what she discovered – the stray kitten had come to them for dinner, eating from Stavros' dish. The ginger cat didn't mind and let the kitten eat to its heart's content, as if he had understood what it is like to be hungry after all these months as a street cat.
"I gave the kitten his own bowl of food in the shed, but he fled when he saw me. Apparently he was so hungry that he took the gamble to come in to eat."
From that day on, Klarieke prepared an additional plate of food for the plus point and hoped to win it over. The kitten came to eat and began to warm up at its feeder.
Nobody came to claim the kitten, and the little guy seemed to have made his place his home. They decided to call him Charlie. "Stavros was like a parent to him, and the kitten spent more time with him in the shed during the day."
Charlie was still very shy of his people, but he looked up at Stavros and wanted to reflect everything he was doing. The little guy got the idea to move into the house.
A few weeks after Charlie arrived, he stepped into his new home with Stavros by his side and cheered him on. He followed his best friend everywhere as they explored the house together.
"We can officially say that Charlie has moved in with us and we have a 4th cat. He comes into the kitchen for dinner and allows us to pet him and even cuddle him."
Charlie didn't know how to use the litter box on his first day at home, but within a few days he got used to all the new things around the house.
"I think Stavros taught him how to do it," added Klarieke.
After a trip to the vet, Charlie got the medical care he needed and received a clean health certificate. He still prefers to spend most of his day up with Stavros, but he comes out of his shell more every day.
The cute kitten loves his VIP life with his eternal family and never has to worry about food and shelter again.
