Stray cat wouldn't go away its solely kitten behind after they have been discovered hidden between sheets of plywood
A stray cat would not leave its only kitten behind after they were found hidden between two sheets of plywood.
Last week, Catsnip Etc, a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) rescue operation in Elkhart County, Indiana, received a call from Lowe about a cat living between two sheets of plywood in their reception area.
Staff could hear the screams of a tiny kitten, but couldn't take a closer look. "If someone were three feet from mom's plywood house, she'd rush out growling and ready to attack," Catsnip Etc told Love Meow.
Rescuers set up a humane trap with a food trail leading to it, but the mother cat only ate the small pieces of food outside the trap and refused to move any further from her kitten.
"She wouldn't go in. She was too worried about leaving her baby."
Every time her kitten made a noise, the cat rushed back to take care of her baby and make sure it was safe. Knowing how protective and devoted the mother was, they decided to play the sound of a crying kitten on her phone to aid in the rescue mission.
"We put the phone on the end of the trap and 20 seconds later she ran in." Rescuers were able to retrieve the lone kitten but could not find any more babies in the area.
Shortly after the mother and kitten arrived in foster families, their foster family was surprised by the cat's changed posture.
"We found out that mom is super cute, likes to be petted and purrs the loudest. She was just scared and protecting her baby. We are so happy that everything went well and these two are safe."
The cute mom has really relaxed and is enjoying her ample supply of food. Your kitten has gained nearly four ounces in just a few days since they were rescued.
"Mom loves her baby so much. If he glances while he's eating, she runs straight to him," said Missy McNeal of Catsnip Etc to Love Meow.
“The first night we had her, the kitten needed a little bath because it was so dirty and greasy. Mom never left his side all the time. She stood right on the sink making sure he was fine went. "
After everything was cleaned up, the cute mother cat cuddled up with her kitten in her comfortable new nest and purred a storm.
"We were sure when we first got to Lowe's. That mom was wild. We'd never had a mom who pounced on us or ran on us to scare us off like that," added Missy.
"But as soon as we caught her, you could tell that she wasn't afraid of people, just afraid of what we would do to her baby."
"When she realized the baby was staying with her, she immediately calmed down, began to purr and wanted to be petted.
"It must have been very stressful for her to be in this noisy storage room all day with so many people coming and going and the noisy forklifts driving around."
